FRANK IFIELD PRESENTED LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD @ CANBERRA COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

Country music million seller Frank Ifield was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canberra Country Music Festival. As the first performer to have 3 consecutive number 1 chart hits in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand, as well as numerous other Top 40 hits across Europe and North America in the 1960s. Frank will always be associated with the songs “I Remember You”, “Lovesick Blues” and “She Taught Me How To Yodel” amongst many others.

Born in Coventry, England to Australian parents, Frank relocated when he was 11 years to a farm just west of Sydney. Growing up he listened to country music while milking the cows and imitating the vocal and yodel style of country stars like Hank Snow. At the age of thirteen won a live radio talent competition, scored a contract with EMI and recorded "Did You See My Daddy Over There?". By the age of 19 was the number one recording star in Australia and New Zealand and had his own country music television show “Campfire Favourites” from when he returned to Britain.

Frank was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Canberra Country Music Festival Director Kelvin Fahey. Upon receiving the award Frank elaborated on his early days promoting his records on radio and television during the times of emerging Beatlemania, as well as his approach to selecting and recording new songs.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards is in addition to his Medal of the Order Of Australia for services to the arts as an entertainer, Country Music Roll of Renown in Tamworth, TIARA for services to Australian country music, Best British Male Vocalist International Country Music Awards and Male Entertainer of the Year by the International Country Music Association of America. These days Frank is active in promoting emerging country music artists as patron of the Music & Arts Talent Search as well as the International Spur Award given to Australian Country Music artists who have international potential.

Mr Frank Ifield we salute you in your lifetime of service to country music!

2012 - June - Relocation, Local Artist Focus, Ute Muster Promotion + Tickets Sale Commences

    Relocation Decision

The Canberra Country Music Festival is proud to announce the relocation of the event to the Hall Polocrosse Grounds commencing this year. The move facilitates outdoor stages, onsite camping ticketing, improved vendor opportunities and expanded field event programming that was either not possible or inflexible at the previous venue. The Festival committee and the Hall Polocrosse Club had been discussing the relocation potential since April and direct experience of a 2-day equestrian event at the site demonstrated the practical suitability for the Canberra Country Music Festival.

The site is very large being 1km from the front gate to the furthest fenceline, thus allowing for expansion into the future. With 5 polocrosse fields (of similar sizes to football fields) the move allows for additional field events (including horse and pony activities) and an expansion of the Canberra Ute Car Truck Muster. The True Blue Stage will return to indoor auditorium at the site, with the Southern Cross main stage being located outdoors on the main polocrosse field. The Bundy Bar will be placed closer to the food village (renamed Scrumpy's Food Village). A host of other innovations are also planned and will be progressively announced as we approach the Festival date 16-18 November 2012.

2012 - May - Relocation Update, International Interest, Ute Muster Promotion + Tickets Sale Commences

    Relocation Update

The Canberra Country Music Festival is set to relocate in 2012. The key reasons involve the inability to provide audiences with ticket camping-packages, outdoor stages, vendor restrictions, recycling program limitations and cost of the previous venue. We seek to maximise the benefits, efficiencies and community interation which was proving difficult, so a move has to be made.

Discussions have been underway with various suitable outdoor veneues in the region with a view to securing the most appropriate site for the Festival's next 10 years of programming. We hope to announce the results within the next month.

Since the Canberra Country Music Festival website commenced some 100,000 hits from some 5,000 unique users (that is specific individual users, not just webpage clicks) from around the world have made this website quite popular amongst the global country music fraternity

To get a better handle on where these people come from we installed the Flag Counter tracking system in December 2011. Recent data indicates that in the past 6 months we've had almost 2,000 unique visitors from 65 nations checking out what's going down at the Festival. These include:

    • 73% Australia - naturally our locals in our backyard!
